Due to the ongoing pandemic, and based on the responses from last month’s member survey, we’ve decided to move forward with hosting virtual meetings this fall. We’re excited to offer the same high-caliber speakers and engaging topics we’re accustomed to, just in an updated, socially distanced format.

Speaker 1:       Brandon Hoving, National Weather Service

Topic 1:            Weather trends

Brandon Hoving has been a Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids since 2008. Beginning in 2012, he accepted the position of Observing Program Leader, putting him in charge of the weather observations and climate programs for the West Michigan region. Brandon specializes in developing and facilitating staff training across a wide range of areas. Most recently, he has worked with office management and the Lead Meteorologists to develop playbooks that specify how to staff for the full range of weather events that West Michigan experiences. A graduate of Central Michigan University in 2008, Brandon obtained his B.S. in Meteorology following an internship with the National Weather Service from 2007-2008. He is currently enrolled in the State of Michigan's Professional Emergency Management program to obtain certification as a Professional Emergency Manager, a role that will enhance relationships with core partners in the Emergency Management community. A native of Hudsonville, Brandon currently resides in Cascade Township with his wife and three daughters. In his free time, he enjoys playing trumpet in the Forest Hills Adult Community Band and Jubal Brass.

 

Speaker 2:       Sarah Remsburg, Farmers Insurance Group

Topic 2:            Practical Wellness: 5 Ways to practice wellness when you don’t really have time

Sarah Remsburg is a Learning and Organization Development Consultant at Farmers Insurance. With nearly two decades of experience in understanding and influencing human behavior and performance, she helps leaders maximize results while motivating their teams. Sarah has designed and delivered multiple workshops and courses to help leaders build their coaching, communication, delegation and relationship-building skills. When she’s not in the classroom, you’ll find Sarah working with some of the best and brightest at Farmers – encouraging and inspiring them while helping them refocus their priorities.

Sarah has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Professional Studies from Davenport University, where she specialized in behavioral, social and psychological sciences. Sarah is a Crucial Conversations Certified Instructor, Gallup Certified Strengths Coach, Certified DiSC Instructor, and has a Bob Pike Instructional Design and Delivery certification. She is currently working toward the distinction of Master Certified Coach through the International Coach Federation.

With over a decade of experience in the Property and Casualty Insurance industry, Sarah is knowledgeable in customer experience, sales and marketing, and underwriting and product knowledge. She earned her Certificate of General Insurance and her Associates of Personal Insurance from the Insurance Institutes of America. She also served as a course instructor for several of the Insurance Institutes’ courses.
