Greetings Members of the West MI CPCU Chapter:

Happy New Year!

As we reflect back on 2015 and look forward to 2016, I would encourage us all to do it with the thought of what CPCU means to you. By doing so, we can establish what CPCU has meant for us in the past and how we can shape it to be even more meaningful in the immediate future, 2016.

From what the statistics tell us, we know that over the next five to ten years, a million individuals will be retiring from our industry. Let us ask ourselves, how we as CPCUs and more specifically, our chapter prepare our members, our colleagues, but most importantly our youth for the challenges that are ahead.

As we move through the year, often times we will need an extra hand, an insightful idea or will ask you volunteer your time. I request that you reflect on your response and consider not just the impact or benefit it may have for you, but the greater impact we could have on our industry with simply the desire to. The greater impact I allude to is our ability to model the way for the next largest generation to have an influence on our industry. Leadership is what will enable this future generation of insurance personnel to succeed and it is our duty as CPCUs to model the way as a leader. Be sure you are asking as much of yourself as you do of others in 2016. Make it a great year!

All the best,

John Mullen, MBA, CPCU, AAI

President West MI CPCU
